FAQ

Business coaching is highly-relational. Strong interpersonal communication skills are important. That does not mean you have to be the life of the party! It simply means to become a business coach who’s effective you need to have the ability to connect with other people. You must also have an understanding of business fundamentals. Most importantly, the most successful business coaches have a genuine and strong desire to help other business people meet their potential.
The fact is, business owners and executives who hire business coaches expect that their coach brings a certain level of business acumen to the relationship. We are not consultants and don’t “tell” our clients what to do, but in order to ask the right questions and give maximum value to our clients, we have to understand business. We are not Life Coaches. We are Business Coaches. We absolutely help our clients with personal effectiveness (and this is very important), but they hire us to help them be more effective in their businesses first.
PBCA members do not report income; your income is your business. PBCA members do not pay royalties; you keep every penny you earn. PBCA members are not limited to territorial restrictions; you can enjoy the freedom to use phone and Skype coaching while coaching anyone you want to coach. PBCA members are not bound to long-term contracts and restrictions; even membership is month-to-month. The PBCA exists to help you promote your own brand, not the other way around; the name and logo you will promote is your own. That’s important because as a business coach, YOU are the product, YOU are the service, and YOU are the brand.
There are thousands of business coaches out there who have thriving business coaching practices. However, like in all things, not everyone is successful. The number one reason professional services firms (including business coaches, accountants, law firms, financial advisory firms, business brokerage firms, consulting practices, etc.) fail is due to a lack of knowledge, ability, or desire to market and sell their services. We’ll teach you how to earn clients with highly effective selling strategies that are very “soft” in nature, since you’re selling a relationship. But you have to be willing to do the work. We’ll even help you develop your own individual selling style that is completely authentic and natural to you. But if the thought of selling your services frightens you, you may want to give that serious consideration. Please know that, ultimately, you have to be willing and able to put yourself out there. It truly is the only way you’ll be able to grow a thriving coaching practice if you don’t already have a large base of business owner friends you can call on. Your clients are buying YOU, but they have to know you, feel comfortable with you, and trust you, in order for them to hire you. If you have any concerns, please schedule a call with Jon Denney to discuss this further.
Absolutely. Some of the best business coaches in the world are people who became business coaches purely to help other people achieve success in their own lives. Most of them still want to earn money for their services, but money isn’t their number one motivator. They want maximum flexibility in their schedules, they want to be able to travel at times throughout the year, and they want to spend most of their time enjoying family or other interests. But they aren’t ready to get out of the business world! If that’s you, then know you’ll have good company in the PBCA! If you’re a person who cares about and enjoys helping people, and you want to build a deep six-figure coaching practice, you’ll also find plenty of company in the PBCA! We are here to help you achieve your goals as a business coach whatever they may be. Whether business coaching is a lifestyle decision for you, or if you have every intention of earning hundreds of thousands of dollars per year, the PBCA will welcome you with open arms and resources to help you achieve your goals.
